Now that you have the recipe for pastillage and tylose, lets talk about the equipment that you will need and where to find it. Believe it or not, but for me one of the most important tools is a heavy mug to cover the paste. It is not easy to be opening and closing a plastic bag over and over again, when all you need to do is lift the mug and there is the paste, ready to be used.
Second, the rolling pin. I use an crylic 9 inches by one inch pin. The wooden pin that I call the "Jurassic Pin" is ok, but usually the paste stick continually to it and delay the working process.
Third you need a good foam pad, like CelPad, the FMM or Jem pad. I prefer the Celpad because it have a soft side and a hard one and also you can choose with holes or without. (By the way, I use them, but I don't sell tools anymore.) In my web site, under links you will find the suppliers for the tools.
Fourth; the CelStick. It is a must in our tool box. Is important for frilling, amongst other multiple uses.
Fifth: This tools are essential for the Cake Decorator. The cake decorator tools set that have the balling tools, dog bone,a veiner, etc. I prefer the Jem Set, remember I don't sell them, but they are the best for me.
6th. A small lid and a small brush. (I used water to attach the petals, because is cheap, you can find it any place around the world and is not messy, like the egg whites.)
7th. A clean towel, preferable white. One end moisted and the other end dry.If your hands are to warm and sweaty, clean them with the moist side and dry with the other side. If your hands are dry, clean them with the moist side and dry with the other side. It works both ways, like the ginger root. If you have hypertension a ginger root tea is good for you. And if you have low tension, ginger root tea is also good. At least that is what my grandmother said and she never failed. She was a great healer.
8th. A small fabric bag with cornstarch. Cornstarch helps with the paste if it is too sticky. Please do not over use it, or the pastillage will get dry and brittle.
9th. A small jar with vegetable shortening. When the flower paste (Tylose) is to sticky to you hands or the table, a dab of shortening do wonders. Do not over do it, it will change the chemistry of the paste and become too soft and eventually too hard.
